Design and Technology at Midgley School is an inspiring, engaging and practical subject. Design and Technology encourages children to learn to think and intervene creatively to solve problems both as individuals and collaboratively. At Midgley, we encourage our children to use their creativity and imagination, to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others' needs, wants and values. We aim to link the work to other disciplines across the curriculum and in the wider world such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art where possible. The children are also given opportunities to become innovators and to experiment with new ideas.
Please find a general overview of the National Curriculum in KS1 and KS2 below, which has been broken down into the design, make and evaluate cycle (including technical knowledge and food technology). The rolling programmes for each class give further detail to the themes and skills being taught across each year - these can be accessed through the sidebar menu on the left.
On Thursday 10th December 2020, we held a Polar Express Day for the whole school. Children were handed out train tickets and had to bring them back on the day to board The Polar Express! We combined the Christmas fun with STEM activities. Class 4 focused on a Science investigation whilst Classes 2 and 3 had a Design and Technology challenge. EYFS did lots of exploring too, using their outside space to create something magnificent! Please read through the booklet above to find out more and see some wonderful pictures of a fantastic day of fun!
